Discover the Magic of Radio!
Every year, thousands of amateur radio operators across North America take to the airwaves for ARRL Field Day — the largest amateur radio event of the year. The McKinney Amateur Radio Club (MARC) invites you, your family, and your friends to join us for a fun-filled weekend of radios, antennas, food, and community.
Never used a radio before? No problem.
Haven’t been on the air since the days of Morse code? We’d love to reconnect.
Looking for a family-friendly event? Bring the kids!
What Is Field Day?
Field Day is part emergency preparedness drill, part community outreach, and part friendly not so competition. For 24 straight hours, amateur radio operators (“hams”) work together to make as many contacts as possible with stations across the country — and sometimes around the world — all while operating on emergency power.
But Field Day is more than just radios:
- Hands-on demonstrations: See how we set up temporary radio stations using generators, solar panels, and portable antennas.
- Get on the air: We’ll guide you step-by-step so you can make your first radio contact — no license required!
- Learn about emergency communications: See how ham radio can provide critical communications when cell towers and the internet go down.
- Meet the community: Whether you’re a curious visitor or a long-time ham getting back into the hobby, you’re welcome here.
Why Come?
✅ For the curious: Experience how radios work with antennas, satellites, or no internet.
✅ For families: Kids love seeing the gear, hearing the voices from around the world, and making their first contact.
✅ For former operators: Dust off your call sign — it’s like riding a bike!
✅ For preppers & CERT members: Learn real-world emergency communications skills.
✅ For everyone: Great conversations, plenty of food, and a welcoming community.
Who We Are
The McKinney Amateur Radio Club is a local community of radio enthusiasts who enjoy learning, experimenting, and giving back. We work closely with local emergency services, CERT, and national organizations to provide volunteer communications support when needed.
Whether you’re brand new to ham radio or rekindling an old passion, you’ll find a warm welcome with us.
