The McKinney Amateur Radio Club sponsors a local group of volunteer examiners (VEs) who administer the FCC exams for amateur radio licenses. The McKinney Amateur Radio Club is an ARRL-affiliated “Special Service Club.”
These exams are held at 2:00 pm on the third Sunday of each month at the Heard Museum, in the Heard Science Resource Center located north of the main museum building. The fee for testing is $15.00. If time permits, and you pass your initial test, you are permitted to take the next test in the series for no additional fee.
There are three exams, corresponding to the three different FCC amateur radio licenses in the United States:
- Technician Class License: Element 2 Exam, 35 questions from a pool of approximately 425 questions.
- General Class License: Element 3 Exam, 35 questions from a pool of approximately 450 questions.
- Amateur Extra Class License: Element 4 Exam, 50 questions from a pool of approximately 700 questions.
